Metroport Meals on Wheels
Metroport Meals On Wheels is a grassroots volunteer advocate for the elderly and those in need through home-delivered meals, senior center luncheons, and other support services. MMOW is Neighbors Helping Neighbors alleviating hunger, isolation, and loneliness in our communities, and fostering the independence, worth, and dignity of each individual we serve. Supporting independence for the elderly is at the heart of MMOW’s mission.
For 40 years, MMOW has relieved isolation, supported independence, provided nutrition, enhanced personal safety, and provided over 1.75 million meals to seniors. MMOW’s commitment to seniors has not wavered. We believe that isolation is caustic, undermining the quality of life, and detrimental to physical health. We strive to enrich lives, to provide simple, joyful things for our participants to anticipate, to provide tangible expressions of care and concern, and to create more opportunities for personal interaction. Our foundation of community support walks hand-in-hand with our grassroots culture, inspiring our Holiday Stocking Tree, Staples for Seniors, Pet Patrol, and Nutritional Supplements—options for community engagement that brings added value to our participants. It is the incentive of our partnerships with food providers in the community who prepare meals locally. It engages volunteers in meaningful roles in the nurture of seniors.
MMOW is committed to maintaining services without interruption during Covid-19. In addition to providing essential meals and welfare checks, the continuity of routine is reassuring in unsettling times. MMOW implemented “no contact” delivery procedures for daily hot, home-delivered meals to safeguard both participants and volunteers. For many seniors, the lunch they enjoyed at the senior center was their only substantive meal of the day. Since the onset of Covid-19, senior center luncheons have continued in most centers, although meals are now provided to-go and delivered curbside.

Sadie’s generates funds for Metroport Meals on Wheels meal programs by operating its resale and consignment business, offering good value on quality merchandise, and providing friendly, courteous service in an inviting selling.
